High-shear dispersing jet stream mixer

Higher shear for agglomerates, emulsions and high-viscosity products.

High-shear mixing and dispersing in one process step

The Rmixx RMD-HS is the high-shear version of the RMD dispersing jet stream mixer. The difference lies in the mixing head: the RMD-HS has a dispersing rotor-stator designed for high shear. This allows the RMD-HS to achieve higher shear forces than the standard RMD.

The extra shear is intended for processes where ordinary mixing is not enough: agglomerates that need to be broken up, droplets that need to be broken down to form an emulsion, and high-viscosity products. Like the RMD, the RMD-HS mixes and disperses the entire batch in one process step, at both micro and macro level and without air entrainment. A separate shear step is not required.

How the RMD-HS works

  1. The mixing head works on the rotor-stator principle and, in addition to good mixing of the tank, reduces the particle size of solids and agglomerates. On the RMD-HS, the rotor-stator is designed for high shear, with higher shear forces than on the standard RMD
  2. Together with the stator slots, the high-speed rotor generates two liquid flows in different directions
  3. A vertically directed partial flow goes straight to the tank bottom, is distributed there and so creates a strong flow throughout the tank
  4. A second partial flow is deflected horizontally in the dispersing jet stream mixing head and guided through the dispersing zone of the mixing head
  5. The high shear in the mixing head does the dispersing; the strong vertical flow ensures that the entire tank contents reach that zone. Together, they form the basis for an optimal mixing result

Integrated mixing and dispersing technology

The RMD-HS combines the jet stream principle of the RMD with a high-shear rotor-stator. The jet stream creates a strong flow through the entire tank, while the rotor-stator provides high local shear. As a result, the RMD-HS mixes and disperses the entire batch in one process step, without a separate shear step and without air entrainment, even at high viscosity. The result: short, reproducible process times and homogeneous product quality.

When should you choose the RMD-HS?

Choose the RMD-HS when shear is the limiting step in your process: agglomerates that do not break up with ordinary mixing, an emulsion in which the droplets need to be broken down, or a high-viscosity product that needs high local shear as well as flow. More shear is not automatically better: too much shear can break down fragile structures or heat the product unnecessarily. If high shear is not needed, the standard RMD may be sufficient. Not sure? What is the difference between the RMD and the RMD-HS?

RMD dispersing jet stream mixer

The dispersing jet stream mixer reduces and disperses fat and wax blocks in two steps. First, the machine is started in reverse, drawing the blocks from below into the protruding rotor blades: the blocks are milled into small pieces. In the second step, the direction of rotation is reversed and the product is processed in the special dispersing jet stream mixing head. This results in intensive mixing of the tank contents at both micro and macro level and disperses the product completely. Melting and dissolving processes are accelerated as a result.

RMD-HS high-shear dispersing jet stream mixer

The dispersing jet stream mixer is also available with a dispersing rotor: this is the RMD-HS. It achieves even higher shear forces than the standard RMD.

The high-shear rotor/stator subjects the tank contents to intense mixing and dispersing and distributes the product with high energy input. All in a single operation.
